Kell is a wealth of Squarespace knowledge.
Leisha Major, The POP Team
Kell’s always so eager to help out and knows exactly what I’m talking about in my plain non-tech speak.
Anna Cook, Crafted Festival
Kell always goes over and above with service. She has a fussy eye for detail, which delivers a quality product.
Lisa Lake, CrossFit TARIS
G’day, I’m Kell.
AKA Kell Green. AKA KG. You know what? If loving CrossFit *and* cross-stitching is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
Something else you should know about me is that my love for my two kidlets, hubby and cat Takumi is rivalled by that for 2000s pop rock (shhh... Don’t tell).
Oh, and I’m a tradie. Well, designer by trade!
You’re more likely to see me sporting athleisure wear than a dress and heels. A good burger *and* dessert is my happy place. And I’ll enjoy a minimum of one iced mocha a day.
But you’re probably here to suss out if I’m the right web designer for you.
(Not my coffee order.)
So let’s see 👇🏼
What got me into design?
One word. Shrek.
Cast your mind back to 2001. I had my eyes set on becoming a hairdresser (which feels hilarious now).
But when I watched Shrek for the first time… There was something about that magical swampy land and waffle breakfasts that blew my mind.
“I don’t know what the heck this is, but I want to do it.”
I was quickly smacked back into reality when I discovered how competitive the world of animation was. A pivot? Graphic design.
I landed a school-based traineeship designing at a printing biz. After graduating school, I started an apprenticeship there, too.
Fast-forward to me falling in love with coding, and I moved on to work at Oztix for 9 years. As a music lover, I was totally in my element.
(Fun fact: I took 3 months leave to become a nail technician on the Gold Coast. ‘Cause nails are like mini canvases, right?!)
The rule of threes turned my world upside down.
After working closely with an accessibility-specialised website developer at Oztix (and picking her brains to uncover the ins and outs of this world!)... I became obsessed with making all design intentionally accessible.
Then, in 2020, I fell pregnant. COVID hit. And with it? The live music industry was rocked. Like so many, I was made redundant. These things always happen in threes, right?!
With a cool 12 years of web design experience under my tool belt, you’d think a gal would be raring to go for biz. Not this gal. I was stuck in a fear cycle of ‘could I ever really run my own shebang?’
Yet, in 2021, after the birth of my second daughter, all the signs led to “Kell, just do it!”
So I took one big gulp and headed out on my own. For myself. For my family. For the flexibility it would allow me with my two littlies.
Akiko Studios was born.
I quickly realised that my traditional training was a real asset. I’d learnt coding and web design at a meticulous per-pixel level. And it made for robust, yet minimal and effective designs.
The only problem? I wasn’t a stuuuddiooo. I was Kell. A mum of two. A family lady. A web designer that felt like a mate (according to clients).
Yet, my brand was stuck in this loop of ‘I’m faceless, you should trust me’. It just didn’t feel right…
After all, people didn’t choose me because I seemed like a gigantic corporation. 9 times out of 10 it was because we’d had a chat, and they liked that the two of us would work collaboratively together.
It was time to shift to a personal brand. I. Was. Terrified. Would it be worth it? Would people trust me? Could I pull this off?
Suddenly, I realised: A brand that looked, felt and sounded like me wasn’t a weakness. It was actually the strongest thing my brand could do!
On the tools as Kell Green Design.
Today, I’ve transformed my brand to accurately reflect (and celebrate!) who I truly am.
I cannot tell you how freakin’ freeing it feels to allow my true personality to shine through. To present my brand online, exactly how you’ll experience me in person.
The real question though: was it worth it? Yes, yes, a squillion times yes.
In business, it’s been a powerful force that's allowed me to connect with others who are chasing this exact feeling. And I suspect that’s what’s led you here today.
Ready to up your website’s game? Let’s do this!
Here’s to rising above what’s being done in your industry.
And uncovering what genuinely feels like you, connects with your dream clients and elevates your brand.
Today I build
websites to reflect &
visualise personalities.
My design style is function first, then add the shine.
This *GORGEOUS* collage was created by Danielle Read (aka Readcity Writing) when she wrote my website copy. It was such a precious gift that I had to share it with you as well. 😂
The Builder.
Minimalist design
A seamless, conversion-ready user experience.
What are you trying to achieve? This mustttt be our first focus. Making your site accessible so the highest number of people possible can use it is high up on our priority list.
It’s got to get the job done.
The Designer.
Maximalist colour
Design that shines with your personality.
You crave an eye-catching yet credible site. One that’s connection-fuelled and approachable. But still reliable and trustworthy.
Colour’s a top priority to bring more *you* into your site.
Something pretty bloody awesome happens when we merge the two.
Combine a pro build with vibrant design
Yes, there’s colour psychology… but your stories connect with colours, too.
Square peg, round hole. Perhaps you weren’t born to fit in. To succumb to the norm. To show passion through red and trust through blue.
Maybe you’re a creativity-spinning data geek who connects with the flounce of orange. The delight of buttery yellow. And fresh green meadows.
So let me ask you this. What would happen if you stopped masking your personality? Instead of denying your own way of doing things. Instead of cramming your ‘humanness’ further back into the closet. What if you just… let go?
You’re a fun person, exciting… open to ideas. Yet if you’re honest, your current website feels busy, out of date or misaligned with you. Or, it doesn’t feel right – but you can’t put your finger on why.
Whether it’s corporate, a mirror of others in your industry or a representation of who you *think* your brand should be...
Right now, your site’s not bringing in leads like you dream.
It’s time to change that.
